September 2019 Concert Poster & Press Release…..

More information in our Press Release…..

Urmston Choral Society will be performing two very special concerts in September to celebrate 10 years since Julie Parker became their Musical Director.

Taking over the baton in May 2009 from the Choir’s previous Conductor, Paul Crashley, Julie has chosen several songs performed in her first concert including Come to the Fair, Windmill in Old Amsterdam and The Keel Row.  The concerts, entitled Dabblin’ in the Dew, will also include traditional, folk and fun songs such as the Eriskay Love Lilt, Londonderry Air, How Much Is That Doggie and many more.

Julie, who lives in Stretford, studied music at the Royal Northern College of Music and regularly delights audiences with solo singing performances at concerts.  She had sung with Urmston Choral as a teenager and was invited back regularly as a soloist after completing her studies.  She has many strings to her bow and, apart from her singing teaching career, is a member of several bands and choirs as well as undertaking many other projects including doing voluntary work in Africa.

Said Julie: “Being a singing teacher myself, I’m delighted to work with UCS to develop their abilities.  We often work on vowel sounds and clarity of consonants along with breath control and support of the voice, while learning harmonies and developing our music reading skills.

“What I also really love about the Choir is the individual members who make up the its collective personality.  There is a very ‘family’ and community feel about the choir which I know lots of members appreciate and many friendships have been formed.  When we make music together, we enjoy ourselves, have a lot of fun and release those endorphins in the brain which lift our spirit to maintain good health and wellbeing.”

The two concerts will be held at St. Clement’s Church in Stretford Road, Urmston on Wednesday, September 11 starting at 7.30pm, being repeated at St. John’s Church, Irlam Road, Flixton, on Saturday, September 14, starting at 2.30pm.  Tickets, priced at £10 (adults), £8 (concessions) and £2 (students/ children) can be purchased from Maxine Summers, Tel: 0161 748 0903.
