Urmston Choral Society is to finish its 2018-19 season with Mozart’s much-loved ‘Requiem’ and other famous songs written by this most prestigious composer. The performances will take place at St. John’s Church in Irlam Road, Flixton, on Wednesday, May 8, and repeated at St. Werburgh’s Church, Wilbraham Road, Chorlton, on Saturday, May 11, both concerts starting at 7.30pm.
The ‘Requiem’ was partly composed by Mozart in Vienna in late 1791 but unfinished on his death that December. It was completed by his pupil, Sussmayr, the following year.
The Choir will also perform The Priest’s Chorus from Die Zauberflote and The Voyager’s Chorus from Idomeneo. They will be complemented during the concerts by soloists Helen Lacey (soprano), Jacqui Dale (mezzo soprano), David Cane (baritone), Philip O’Connor (tenor) and Gary Hulme (organist).
Tickets priced £10 (adults), £8 (concessions) and £2 (students/children) can be purchased from Maxine Summers, Tel: 0161 748 0903.
Said Julie Parker, the Choir’s Director of Music: “It’s a pleasure to work on and conduct Mozart’s ‘Requiem’. Having recently taken part in a performance of this work in Vienna, I am looking forward to bringing this to local audiences. Our professional soloists will also delight our audiences with arias from Mozart’s operas.”
